God gives us instruction and commands. These are referred to as law. There are three categories: the ten commandments, Levitical law, and other places where God tells us what to do or not to do.

Many bible commentators have pointed out that the ten commandments fall into two categories where the first five commandments relate to God and the last five are more civil in nature. Here is a list of some categories of law given in the Torah.
